Can dogs eat watermelon?
Yes, in moderation Yes. Seedless watermelon flesh is a hydrating, low calorie treat. Remove the seeds and rind.
Why
Watermelon is about 92% water and low in calories (AKC); half a cup diced (76 g, 2.7 oz) has about 23 kcal (UC Davis). The seeds can choke or, in numbers, block the gut, and the rind is hard to digest and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea or a blockage.
How to give it safely
Remove all seeds and rind and cut into bite-sized chunks. Frozen chunks make a cooling summer treat. It does not replace fresh drinking water.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
