Can dogs eat apples?

Yes, in moderation Yes. Apple slices are a good low calorie treat. Remove the core and seeds first.

Why

Apples provide vitamins A and C and fibre and are low in calories (AKC). The seeds contain a small amount of cyanide and the core and stem are a choking risk, so remove them; a few swallowed seeds are unlikely to cause harm. Unsweetened apple sauce is fine, but apple pie is not: too much sugar, and it may contain nutmeg. Too much apple can cause diarrhoea. A quarter cup of chopped apple (31 g, 1.1 oz) has about 14 to 16 kcal (UC Davis).

How to give it safely

Wash, core and deseed, then cut into slices or small cubes. A slice or two is enough (AKC). Puppies can have a small cube to start.

This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
