This is the whole plan, stage by stage, and what we put in front of you at each one.
The dates below belong to a sample dog: a medium sized puppy, no breed given, born on 1 August 2026. Yours are worked out from your own dog’s birthday, size and country.
8 weeks
Eight weeks is when most puppies leave the litter. The first fortnight is mostly settling in, and a short list of things that are easy to lose track of while nobody in the house is sleeping properly.
We put the list on dates. You do not have to hold any of it in your head.
8 to 16 weeks
Two things run at once here, and both of them have a deadline. The vaccination course finishes on a schedule your country sets, so the doses an Australian puppy gets are not the doses an American one gets.
The socialisation window shuts somewhere between 14 and 16 weeks, and the guidelines do not agree on exactly where. What a puppy meets before then is most of the dog you get afterwards. We date every dose from the birthday, and we open the window on the day it opens rather than after the last needle.

around 6 months
The easy puppy goes away for a while. Recall gets worse, chewing gets stronger, and the dog who knew three commands at four months forgets one of them at eight.
Desexing timing is a real decision now, and it moves with size, so we raise it early and link the guidance rather than hand you an opinion.
around 12 months
Puppy food is built for growth. Once growth stops it is simply more food than the dog needs. When that happens depends on size: about 12 months for a medium dog, 15 for a large one, 18 for a giant.
We move the date with the size you gave us, and we come back after desexing to check the portion again, because that is where a lot of dogs quietly put on weight.
1 to 7 years
Not much happens, which is the whole problem. Worming, flea and tick cover and heartworm prevention run monthly or quarterly depending on where you live. The annual check, the first dental and the quarterly weigh in are the ones that slide.
This is the stretch the printout from the vet never covered. It is also the stretch that decides how the last few years go.

Senior is not a birthday. We put it at the last quarter of a dog’s expected life, the way the AAHA guidelines define it, which for a medium sized dog with no breed on file lands around seven.
Checks move to twice a year. Joints, teeth and weight matter more than they did, and the house can be made easier to get around before it needs to be.
From there the check repeats every six months instead of every year.
An eight week old puppy and an eleven year old rescue both work. Put in a birthday, or your best guess at one, and the plan starts from where the dog actually is rather than from the beginning.
Schedules come from WSAVA, AAHA, the AVA, ESCCAP, CAPC and the American Heartworm Society, linked on every item. Your vet sets the actual products and dates. The hub makes sure nothing gets forgotten between visits.
