Can dogs eat cantaloupe?
Yes, in moderation Yes, in moderation. Melon flesh is a hydrating, low calorie treat. Remove the rind and seeds.
Why
Cantaloupe gives fibre, vitamins A, B6 and C and plenty of water for few calories, though it is sugary, so be careful with diabetic dogs (AKC). The rind can cause stomach upset or a blockage, and the seeds are a choking hazard. A quarter cup of honeydew (44 g, 1.6 oz) has about 16 kcal (UC Davis).
How to give it safely
Remove the rind and seeds and cut the flesh into bite-sized pieces.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
