Can dogs eat blackberries?
Yes, in moderation Yes. Fresh blackberries are a low calorie treat. Wash them and keep the portion small.
Why
Dogs Trust lists blackberries among foods dogs can usually eat. They give fibre, vitamins and antioxidants and are lower in sugar and calories than some fruits (AKC). Too many can upset the stomach. They contain trace amounts of natural xylitol, which AKC says is considered safe in a normal serving. Frozen berries sold for people may have added sugar or xylitol.
How to give it safely
Wash them, then serve whole, halved or mashed. AKC's guide is only a few berries for a toy breed and up to a handful for a giant breed. Pick wild ones only if you are sure they are blackberries.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
