Can dogs eat bananas?

Yes, in moderation Yes, in small amounts. Banana is a fine occasional treat, but it is high in sugar. Peel it first.

Why

Bananas give potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, fibre and magnesium, but they are high in natural sugar, so keep them occasional (AKC). The peel is not toxic but is hard to digest and can cause a blockage. 28 g (1 oz) of mashed banana has about 25 kcal (UC Davis).

How to give it safely

Peel, then give a few slices, mash a little into food, or freeze small pieces as a summer treat.

This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
