Can dogs eat strawberries?
Yes, in moderation Yes, in moderation. Fresh strawberries are a low calorie treat. Skip tinned or syrup strawberries.
Why
Strawberries give fibre and vitamin C, and a medium one (12 g, 0.4 oz) has about 4 kcal (UC Davis). They do contain natural sugar, and too many can loosen stools (AKC). Tinned strawberries, strawberries in syrup and strawberry flavoured products can contain added sugar or xylitol.
How to give it safely
Wash, remove the stem and leaves, and cut into small pieces or mash for small dogs. AKC suggests one to three a day as a starting point depending on size, fewer for small dogs.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
