Can dogs eat peas?
Yes, in moderation Yes. Plain fresh or frozen peas are fine as a treat. Avoid tinned peas, which are usually salty.
Why
Peas are not toxic and PDSA, RSPCA and AKC all list them as safe treats. Tinned peas carry a lot of added sodium. Pods of snap and snow peas are fine but can catch in the throat. Separately, research continues into diets that use peas and other pulses as main ingredients and heart disease (DCM); that concern is about complete diets, not an occasional handful (AKC).
How to give it safely
Fresh, frozen or thawed, raw or cooked, plain. Shell garden peas.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
