Can dogs eat bell peppers?

Yes, in moderation Yes, plain sweet peppers of any colour in small amounts. Never chilli or jalapeño peppers.

Why

Bell peppers are not toxic and are a healthy snack, a vet quoted by AKC says, and Pet Poison Helpline lists them among friendly fall foods. They give vitamins A, C and E and beta-carotene (AKC). Too much can cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Spicy peppers such as chillies and jalapeños should never be given, and peppers cooked with onion or garlic are unsafe.

How to give it safely

Plain, with seeds and stem removed, steamed or pureed if the skin is too tough. The vet quoted by AKC suggests less than half a pepper at a time for a large dog and less than a quarter for a small dog.

This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
