Can dogs eat pears?
Yes, in moderation Yes. Fresh pear in bite-sized pieces is a healthy treat. Remove the core and seeds, and skip tinned pears.
Why
Pears give vitamin C, vitamin A and fibre (AKC). The seeds contain traces of cyanide and can cause choking, so cut around the core. Tinned pears carry too much sugar. A quarter cup of sliced pear (35 g, 1.2 oz) has about 20 kcal (UC Davis).
How to give it safely
Core and deseed, then cut into bite-sized pieces. For a small dog, one slice now and then is enough (AKC).
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
