Can dogs eat shrimp?

Yes, in moderation Yes, fully cooked and peeled. One or two plain shrimp or prawns are fine now and then.

Why

Shrimp are low in fat and calories and give vitamin B12, niacin and phosphorus, though they are high in cholesterol (AKC). Raw shellfish carry pathogens, and shells, tails, heads and legs are a choking and blockage risk, especially for small breeds. Fried or battered shrimp add unneeded fat.

How to give it safely

Steamed or boiled, shell, tail, head and legs removed, plain. One or two for most dogs, part of one for a small dog.

This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
