Can dogs eat chicken?
Yes, in moderation Yes. Plain cooked chicken with no bones or skin is a good protein treat. Never give cooked chicken bones.
Why
Plain cooked chicken is a good protein source and is often suggested for dogs recovering from a stomach upset (AKC). RSPCA and RSPCA Australia both list it as fine in small amounts as long as it has no bones, onion, gravy or heavy seasoning. Most sources, including RSPCA Australia, advise against raw chicken because of salmonella. Some dogs are allergic to chicken.
How to give it safely
Boiled, baked or grilled, unseasoned, skin and every bone removed, cut into small pieces.
This is general guidance, your vet sets the actual schedule. Puppies, small dogs and dogs with a health condition can react to smaller amounts. Check with your own vet before changing what your dog eats.
